Reinforcing CARIC as a National Network: an AIAC Recommendation to the Government of Canada

in News

Last September, the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC) published the Aerospace Innovation White Paper – Innovation Agenda Submission to highlight the aerospace sector’s impact on innovation. AIAC makes 10 recommendations for strengthening the Canadian innovation ecosystem, which will support a growing competitive industry.

In the Aerospace Innovation White Paper, AIAC recommends reinforcing the Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada (CARIC) as a collaborative aerospace research network. More specifically, it proposes to allocate $280 million over seven years to the Canadian consortium to continue its expansion. The goal is to consolidate the CARIC network and build on the efforts and achievements of the Green Aviation Research & Development Network (GARDN), whose financing ends in 2019.

This recommendation also addresses five areas for action from the Government of Canada’s Innovation Agenda:

  • Entrepreneurial and creative society
  • Global science excellence
  • World-class clusters and partnerships
  • Grow companies and accelerate clean growth
  • Ease of doing business
