On Tuesday, June 21, 2016, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as delegates from other regions, came to Montreal on an aerospace mission to develop industry relations and better understand the sector’s challenges.
Delegates from Newfoundland included Kirk Tilley, Director, Sector Development of the provincial government; Ron Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI); Lin Paddock, Executive Director, Aerospace and Defence Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (ADIANL); Marc Kielley, Associate Director, Major Research Partnerships at Memorial University of Newfoundland; Duncan McSporran, Regional Director, Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada (CARIC), Atlantic region.
Through a series of visits, the delegates had the opportunity to better understand the activities of several major players in the aerospace industry, including CAE, Bell Helicopter Textron Canada and Pratt & Whitney Canada. New relationships were fostered, including two collaborative research projects that will undoubtedly have Newfoundland and Labrador organizations as new partners. These new collaborations fall perfectly within the scope of CARIC’s mission.
The delegates greatly appreciated the aerospace mission and industrial visits. This beautiful initiative by the Atlantic regional office will definitely inspire more.
