Motivated to question assumptions and find data-driven solutions, William Parkinson is the Technical Manager of Data Science at UrtheCast – Canada’s newest and fastest growing space-based earth observation company. Overseeing a multidisciplinary team, Will’s role at UrtheCast is to define, evaluate, validate, and deliver high quality data science to the company’s next generation ground system.
Working closely with end users in industry, government, and academia, William leads multiple research initiatives in developing advanced products for agriculture, forestry, water management, and other application areas. William is passionate about helping domain experts make use of big data and remote sensing for operational needs by working with a vast variety of stakeholders to help define systems that will deliver the information needs to the next generation of users.
William obtained a Master’s of Science from Carleton University in 2012 and has since been a remote sensing scientist for the Canadian government, geomatics teacher to the Canadian armed forces, and a private consultant for earth observation and machine learning application development.
